FoodCycle exists because every day, here in the UK, there are people going
hungry while perfectly good food is being thrown away and lots of people who
are lonely, could come together to form communities and make new friends.
We collect waste food from supermarkets, grocers and markets. We find spare
community kitchens and eating spaces. And we have over 3,000 trained
volunteers across the country who bring the two together. Every week they
collect more than a tonne of waste food, cook it into 850 tasty, nutritious
meals, and serve them to the people who really need them in big, joyful
community meals. Volunteers and guests sit down to eat together, meet
others and chat, building strong local communities across the country
Come and join us at our regular evening meals at one of our Manchester projects. Using surplus food, we cook a 3 course vegetarian meal for a community of around 20-30 people for free every week, serve a delicious array of dishes and chat with a variety of guests!
What happens at a meal? The hosting team is in charge of setting-up the cafe area and ensuring everyone's got a proper cuppa! Your main responsibilities will be laying the table, creating a friendly, welcoming environment, chatting to the guests and helping clear up afterwards.
