The Elections used the Single Transferable Vote (STV) voting system.
14 formal complaints were received by the deputy returning officers for the election. The table below summarises the outcomes of those complaints:
Type |
Not upheld |
Upheld |
Complaints about candidate behaviour |

Complaints about the conduct of the election |

The election Returning Officer, who is a member of NUS staff, has concluded that the elections were free and fair and has certified the results. The three upheld complaints about candidate behaviour led to warnings being issued to candidates. The upheld complaint regarding the conduct of the election was due to a voting process issue which allowed a small number of 'guest' accounts to vote on the system. This was rectified by those votes being deleted before the elections were returned, and would not have made any material difference to the elections outcome.
