What is the Student Representation System?

The Student Representation System creates a forum for students to express their opinion on those issues which directly impact on their learning experience and to influence change.  Students, students as representatives and staff all have a part to play in this to make it successful.

How does it work?

The students on a course elect one person to be their representative.  Students should then make that person aware of any issue or problems that may arise.  The Student Representative is responsible for gathering student opinion, attending meetings with tutors and support staff to try to negotiate a positive experience for everyone.  There are Student Representatives at a course level and Student Liaison Representatives who work at a School and Faculty Level.

What issues do Student Representatives deal with?

Student Representatives can deal with a variety of issues but these are mostly related to academic aspects of the course such as course content, provision of resources, workload, assessment and reading lists.

Why should I get involved?

There are many benefits in getting involved.  You will be make a real difference in ensuring the student voice is heard on the issues that matter. At the same time, you'll be developing a range of skills that future employers will be looking for.

Get involved by:

  • using your Student Representative to highlight the relevant issues
  • becoming a Student Representative or
  • becoming a Student Liaison Representative

There is a range of support available for Student Representatives. If you would like more information contact the Student Representation Coordinator or ring 0161 351 5417.
