TOP TIPS FOR PROMOTING YOUR STUDENT ACTIVITY GROUP

Tell us Your News
If you’ve won a match, are holding an event or have a fixture coming up you’d like students to attend, tell us! We can promote it via our newspaper, Student Direct or the Students’ Union website, reaching thousands of Salford students.

This is a great way to raise awareness of your group, promote your successes and potentially recruit new members.

Use Your Minisite!
Every student activity group has their own ready made website which is linked to from the Activities page of the Students’ Union website - click here to view it.

The USSU website receives around 60,000 hits a month and the Activities page is one of the most popular pages, so huge numbers of potential members could be looking at your minisite.

Make sure it has all the information you’d like them to see – what your group does, when you meet and how interested students can get in touch.

If you haven’t got a site or don’t know how to update it, email: studentactivities-ussu@salford.ac.uk. We’ll set up your site for you and we can arrange a quick and simple training session to show you how it works.

Promote Your Group All Year Round
Don’t just focus on the Activities Fair to recruit new members, promote your group throughout the academic year. Students may decide to join a group at any time of the year and not all new students start in September.

Get your minisite up to date, send us your news regularly, run poster and flyer campaigns and think imaginatively – what would make you sit up and take notice and want to join a student activity group?

Want to promote your group but don’t know where to start? Arrange a meeting with the USSU marketing manager who will help you put a plan together. Contact Helen Wilkinson at: h.wilkinson@salford.ac.uk

Use the Template
If you’re going to run a poster or flyer campaign, make sure you use the template supplied by Student Activities which features the USSU logo and website address. This will help students identify your promotional material as being backed by the Union and it may mean it’s less likely to be pulled down too! Contact studentactivities-ussu@salford.ac.uk for a copy of the template.
